Working with Bella Southern Interior Designers

Some of our clients are very comfortable working with an interior designer. Other clients have never worked with an interior decorator before they contract with us. The design process fits into specific categories and generally follows a sequence. Not every project will require all phases of the design process to be applied, but here is a basic overview of what you can expect when working with us.

Creating an Interior Design Plan

First we will meet with you here at our studio to discuss your needs and vision for your interior design project and allow you to view some of our workmanship first hand. At this time we will also review our working policies and answer any questions about how our practice operates. There is no charge for the initial meeting. If we are both comfortable with our new relationship, our second appointment will be held on the project site. Some initial design and space requirements will be discussed, budgets, your preferences, likes and dislikes, and approximately, based on our experience, how long you can expect the project to last from concept to completion. In this exercise, you talk, and we listen, take notes and ask questions that will help to clarify your thoughts and ideas for us.

We may take photos of the site, and measure your space. Then, we will identify any anticipated problems, and assess what resources we might need to overcome them. In other words, this is the problem (project description and concerns) and this is how we are going to solve your problem (design your space for your maximum enjoyment.) A retainer is required to begin this process.

Next, we will develop a project schedule, consult and coordinate with other design professionals and specialty consultants on the Bella Southern team as may be required for your project and get back to you with our findings.

Developing an Interior Design Plan

Now the stage is set to further cement our concepts and ideas. Floor plans will be drafted and designed in AutoCAD or by hand as is necessary, renderings will be drawn or computer generated to help you to see what we envision. There is a cost for these services.

Then, we will produce space planning, furniture arrangement, research wall coverings or paint specifications, window treatments, floor and ceiling treatments, furniture, fixtures and architectural elements, finishes, lighting, art and accessories. We will also research and or/draft cabinetry plans, built ins, and other design elements.

You will look at fabric samples and pictures of furnishings and/or the actual pieces if available for viewing in the area.

Executing an Interior Design Plan

Now we are ready to finalize and detail all arrangements. All materials, finishes, fixtures, manufacturers, suppliers and equipment are named (specified) and ordered if requested or we will work with your contractor through the installation process. Final price quotes are obtained and specialty consultants’ professional services are confirmed. And then, you tell us how much or how little you want us involved in project management and/or installation. No matter what level or service you choose, your project will be handled professionally by our staff.

Generally, How Do we Charge for Our Services?

We have various billing methods or a combination of methods specific to your project, but here are some basics about our billing.

Hourly rate – just our design fees
Inclusive of our training, experience and expertise, and access to our contacts and resources. Depending on the project size and requirements, a retainer may be required.

Fixed rate – We estimate the time and services required to complete your project and quote you a fixed rate. A retainer is charged and then a schedule of additional payments will be determined.

Percentage above cost – We have a large pool of resources and receive many professional discounts which we pass on to you and then sell our resources to you at a percentage over our costs. When we can lower our percentage we do to get you the best price for your project.

Custom agreements depending on your project and situation.
